About Me

Sit With Me? You may or may not care why I chose the name I did, but I do. For me it is packed full of inviting, relaxed, and loving safety. You need to feel safe. Your story needs to be heard! And as part of your healing journey, you need to be seen.

My motto, “Be Seen, Be Heard, Be Well” speaks to my own story and I am sure to many of yours.

Have you ever spent 30 seconds with your doctor and been told that your labs and your health is fine but you don’t FEEL fine? You KNOW something is out of balance. Why isn’t your doctor looking? OR, on the other hand he or she just wants to stick some band aid medicine on you, but doesn’t really get into your story or listen to what YOU want or what feels good to YOU?

Sit With Me means that you are invited to join me in a space where your story, your health story and your life story, can come out in full. You taking up this space is where true healing can begin. This happens through:

  1. You choosing you and your health
  2. You using your voice and taking up space, bringing pieces of your story to light that will bring clarity to your next steps.
  3. You being seen by a practitioner that knows that it ALL matters, that your story is uniquely yours, and that you need to be treated just as uniquely. This is not template medicine. No cookie-cutter practices here.
  4. And to come to know that you have it in you, part of your core essence, to find healing. You are capable of great things!

My purpose at Sit With Me Functional Nutrition is to help you find your voice and be seen for the gem that you are and have the reward of finding life changing, physical healing along the way.

Come sit with me.

At the age of 31 I went from running marathons to barely being able to run around the block. Even at 9 months pregnant I was doing more than that. What happened to me? This hingepoint in my life came after I gave a beautiful birth to my 4th child, followed by a traumatic postpartum hemorrhage. In the months that followed, a host of other symptoms came along and a diagnosis of Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, an autoimmune thyroid disease.

I was in denial, and frozen, unable to really care for my health. I squeaked by, generally avoiding any medical help for the most part. I had lost all faith in medicine over my years of personal experience and then watching my father die of cancer. I was an RN with no desire to ever serve in my profession again. I couldn’t get behind it. In fact, I actually let my nursing license lapse after keeping it up for almost 20 years.

So, I struggled with my health, my energy, my weight, my vitality… And I struggled with significant relational trauma as well, and had for many years, even before the Hashimotos diagnosis and the dramatic downturn of my health.

I tried so many different approaches and nothing moved the needle, not even a little bit. My fatigue was so bad that I could barely walk up the stairs. I was offered some treatments, medications and surgery to try, but nothing sat right with me. I wanted to know the “why” behind what was going on with me and no one could give me that answer.

Then I came upon functional medicine and someone that cared about the “why” as much as I did. The lights all came on for me AND I was told that I could use my nursing license to become a Functional Nutritionist myself and help people in a way that I could truly get 100% behind.

Miracle upon miracle, I was able to get my license renewed and was accepted into the Funk’tional Nutrition Academy (FNA) a short time later. It’s been an incredible whirlwind ever since. I just cried when I looked through the curriculum to see what I would be learning and implementing with my clients as well as embodying in my own life. Such a gift!!!

Erin Holt, my mentor and founder of FNA, once said that you don’t have to be healed or 100% to be able to help someone else. That gave me the courage to just dive in. Part of my training is to be working with my own clients, building my practice and utilizing the great mentorship that I get through my program. So I am doing both. In the meantime, I am finally getting answers and interventions for my own health struggles from over the last 10 years.

The only way to start is to just start! Go ugly early, as Erin says. So if you’ve read this far, thanks for humoring me and my very professional “about me” iPhone selfies…
